Brat diet is bland food. That is often recommended for children and adults suffering from intestinal problems. These include diseases such as dyspepsia, diarrhoea and gastroenteritis.

Brat is a mnemonic of Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast – or tasteless foods with low fibre content. These foods will help a person recover from intestinal irritation. Extensions of this diet include tea, yoghurt, boiled chicken and tapioca.

Other junk foods can add to foods such as saltine crackers, boiled potatoes or plain soups. Dairy products, sugary foods and fatty foods should avoid immediately. After vomiting and diarrhoea as they cause excess constipation, and become nauseous.

These foods include “binding” foods that are low in fibre and can help make the seats stronger. Low fibre diets recommend because high-fibre foods believe to cause gas. And can irritate the intestines. Bananas that are high in potassium help replace nutrients lost. Through vomiting or diarrhoea.

Body Parts: Brat diets do not have as many nutrients as the body needs to function. It does not contain the right amount of protein, fat, calcium and vitamins. But, it can also serve as a test food. If the symptoms worsen or return, it is a sign that the food has passed too. Studies have found that dietary supplementation can reduce the severity of diarrhoea.

Pregnancy: Brat diets should follow immediately after having diarrhoea or vomiting. This will help the person to lose weight and get back to a normal diet. Diet also helps women reduce nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.

For Adults:  But, diet is not recommended for adults who cleanse. If so, one should take clear fluids or electrolyte fluids. Until they can eat solid foods without vomiting. This will also protect the person from dehydration or salt imbalance. Which, if severe and untreated. It can lead to life-threatening weakness, mud, thirst and even death.

Conclusion

The diet should follow only for a short time as this does not provide all the ingredients for a healthy diet. Prolonged exposure to it can cause malnutrition. Because one does not receive many essential nutrients. Recovery is difficult for a malnourished person.

A person should be able to start eating a normal diet. With fruits and vegetables included, within a day or two after vomiting or diarrhoea.

Health experts recommend first-line treatment for gastroenteritis. By cutting back on junk food, snacks, and plenty of fluids.

Some foods are being studied, with the hope that they will add protein and fat to their diet. This call the Cram diet which represents grain, applesauce and milk.
